bmt commanders’ appraisal
so for those who wanna know wad the ppl that have been in charge of me for the past 7 weeks are like…
2LT Ajay
Our PC is just like his favourite phrase, “nice”. 2LT Ajay is special, not just cos he’s the same age as most of us in the platoon, and younger than some even, but because he actually cares enough about the welfare of his platoon. Other than being a disciplinarian, much like any other commander we have in BMT, he knows when to relax and when to unwind. An example of such occasions would be the nice birthday shower we gave JP with our filled waterbottles, of which he played a major part in. He bothers to stand up for his platoon, like when our favourite CQ asks for 517832970 people to fill jerrycans, carry stuff, load the tonner, unload the tonner, load the tonner again… he asked him to get the volunteers from another platoon instead. So overall, 2LT Ajay did a pretty good job with platoon 1 I think.
3SG Nigel
Despite his nonchalant demeanour, I think 3SG Nigel is the best specialist I’ve met. He’s pragmatic, and he bothers to put himself in the shoes of those he leads, so his expectations of us are realistic and attainable. This is one particular quality that I think he possesses that makes him stand out from the other specialists that I know, and also why he gained my respect. He is also very concerned about the welfare of the platoon, and this is especially evident when he asks us, “where’s your pail?” That being said, he could have had interacted more with his section (aka mine), because we hardly know him as our section commander. I guess that’s also because of him being a PS, which gives him less time for interaction with us because of the additional duties, but it’s still something that I think would be good if something could be done about it! And by the way, his hair is very the sex.
3SG Terence
Or more affectionately known as “ter bear”, he’s really the nice guy sergeant in the platoon. Always smiley and with his dimples, I honestly think that the only appropriate adjective I can use to describe him is… nice. As much as he is our sergeant, he also puts himself to our level at times, talking about things which both parties can identify with like games and movies, and even spending time playing Chinese chess with his section. Seeing him angry though is especially frightening, which is probably why we try our best not to make him mad as well, other than the fact that he’s always very nice to us in the first place. It’s good to reciprocate, lest the d34thm@ster punishes us for it.
3SG Dong
It’s amazing how long his hair can grow and still stand. Anyway, 3SG Dong as everyone calls him is probably the most heckcare sergeant we have on the platoon. He does bother to chat with us sometimes, and it’s nice to speak to him on the same level. However, I think that he should try to be wary of putting himself up and distancing himself too much from the platoon. His attitude and generally dismissive behavior does get to some of us, which isn’t the best of things when we have certain problems that we need his help in resolving or issues that we need clarification on. That being said, I think he did commendably for his first time as an infantry specialist commander in BMT.
3SG Elyas
The sergeant better known as rugby player with whiteteeth, who demands that everyone smiles when they see him – that’s 3SG Elyas. The strictest sergeant in our platoon, but also the one with the most sense of humour. Perhaps that’s because he’s had the most amount of interaction with us as a platoon, but his constant confinement threats still scare the crap out of us. The standard of discipline he demands is high, with proper bearing and behavior expected at all times. That also results in many punishments, although to be fair his intentions are good, and he wants us to learn from our mistakes. That being said, his methods are questionable, especially with the “do it once, do it right” lesson. Expectations should be laid out clearly before anything, so that we have a target instead of wasting an entire afternoon away trying to reach for a standard that keeps increasing at every instance. But still, a very good sergeant that takes pride in his work.
